Noise Of The Week : Mercury/Queen Biopic

According to Queen's Official Website, The Freddie Mercury/Queen Movie is on track: "Twice Academy Award Nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”), is already at work on the script of the currently untitled film, which will feature Academy Award Nominee Sacha Baron Cohen in the starring role. Baron Cohen will play the legendary front man of the iconic rock band Queen, and the currently untitled drama will focus on the years leading up to Queen’s appearance at the historic Live Aid concert, 1985, when the band famously took the event by storm.

Production is set to begin in 2011. GK Film’s Graham King said today, “Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand all unto itself. Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role coupled with Peter’s screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success.”

Noise Of The Week : Iron Maiden Singer Becomes Marketing Director

According to MusicNews: "Iron Maiden front man Bruce 'Air Raid Siren' Dickinson has been named the head of marketing at Astraeus Airlines.

Dickinson has been a long time pilot for the airline, taking up the position whenever Iron Maiden aren't on the road, having clocked up 7,000 hours behind the wheel, or er, joystick. His new position doesn't mean he will cease to fly, saying his new position is more that of an ambassador.

'This isn't about appointing ad agencies or anything like that,' he said in a statement. '[My job is to] bring the Astraeus message and business proposition directly to what is a relatively tight and targeted audience of people and decision-makers in aviation.'

For the band's 2008/09 'Somewhere Back In Time' world tour, Dickinson piloted an Astraeus Airlines jet covered in Iron Maiden decals and the band's mascot Eddie emblazoned on the tail."  See Bruce Dickinson flying and singing:

Album Of The Week : Grinderman 2 by Grinderman - Nick Cave howeld at the moon

Grinderman is a side project of Nick Cave and some of "his" bad seeds. The second album of Grinderman is simply called Grinderman 2, like any horror or vampire movie sequel. But Grinderman 2 is not soporific and insipid like the Twilight sequel, it's dark, profound and heavy, or in other words, terrific!

Album: Grinderman 2
Band: Grinderman
Label: Mute
Release date: 13 september 2010 (UK)

The Noise Of the Week : Tron & Daft Punk

One of the holiday season's most anticipated albums, Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack, is still a few months away. (The movie is out December 17, and the soundtrack is expected around then.) But, now we have an official Tron Legacy soundtrack web space to bookmark and watch closely. People still bookmark web pages, right?

At the moment, it just shows a logo, plays an ominous bit of score, and offers a mailing list, but hopefully the site's existence will stop people from posting all those bullshit Daft Punk songs.

J'G blog stole this week's NOISE/NEWS from pitchfork.
