New six-book publishing deal for Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan has signed a new six-book publishing deal with Simon & Schuster.

The songwriting legend's new deal will see him release two sequels to his 2004 book Chronicles: Volume One as well as two books based on his XMradio show, Theme Time Radio Hour, reports Crain's New York Business.

Further details about the other two books included in the deal have not been released.

Chronicles: Volume One was the first instalment of Dylan's memoirs, but did not feature much material based on his life in the mid-1960s, when his fame was at its height. (Taken from NME)

Reissue of the Week: Barcelona by Joe Henderson

Joe Henderson is a well known saxophonist for jazz lovers but his name is unfortunately not as famous as John Coltrane, Miles Davis or Dave Brubeck for a more general audience. Therefore it is a great pleasure to announce the reissue of Barcelona. Recorded with Wayne Darling (bass) and Ed Soph (drums) live at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas on June 2, 1977 and at Trixi Studio, Munich, Germany on November 15, 1978; the cd includes liner notes by Horst Weber.

Take this opportunity to (re)discover other great albums by this Giant Musician like Our Thing or Inner Urge.

Dire Straits classic banned in canada

It is completely crazy but it seems to be true.... ( sad but true).

"The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council declares Dire Straits' 'Money For Nothing' unacceptable.

In 2010, a listener filed a complaint about Newfoundland radio station OZ FM playing the song; specifically about the appearance of the word 'faggot' in the lyrics.

CBC reports that the complaint stated that 'there is absolutely no valid reason for such discriminatory marks [sic] to be played on-air'.

On Wednesday the CBSC issued a ruling saying that airing the song breaches the human rights clauses of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code, as it 'refers to sexual orientation in a derogatory way'.

The song has previously been accused of being sexist (for the line about getting 'chicks for free') and racist (for the line about 'banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee') but neither claims have resulted in a ban." (Taken from music-news).

Noise of the Week: Bon Jovi is highest ticket earner of 2010

Bon Jovi have topped the ticket sales for touring acts in 2010. Their Circle The World tour of 2010 scored Bon Jovi over $200 million in ticket sales. The $201.1 million earnings beat out AC/DC and U2 by a huge margin of more than $41 million.

Lady Gaga's Monsters Ball tour netted her $133.6 million in sales (from 138 shows) and Metallica scored $110.1 million. Michael Bublé was the sixth highest-earner, followed by the Walking with Dinosaurs tour, Paul McCartney, the Eagles and Roger Waters rounding out the top ten.

When the list was limited to US ticket sales alone, Bon Jovi was first, followed by Roger Waters, Dave Matthews Band, Bublé and the Eagles. (From Music-News).

Blockbuster of the Week: Alpine Valley 2010 by Phish

Taken from onlinephishtour (click on the link for a complete review) : "As written on the cover of Phish’s new DVD/CD box set, Alpine Valley is indeed “legendary.” The two concerts there over the weekend of August 14 & 15, 2010, anchored the second half of the band’s summer tour, with powerful performances on all fronts. The weekend at Alpine Valley included arguably the best two shows of August and possibly all of summer. This box set highlights the first night.

The set includes four discs: 2 DVDs and 2 CDs. Not only do the DVDs have the entire concert from August 14, parts (much) of the second night is included as filler material. The first disc has the entire first set of the second night, and the second disc includes the Ghost > Theme From the Bottom > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars from the second night. The packaging includes an impressive panoramic picture of the Alpine crowd, along with a booklet of pictures Dave Vann took during the concert. The inside pocket also contains a special, alternative style, Alpine Valley merit badge."

Phish - Alpine Valley 2010 DVD - "Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan" from Phish on Vimeo.

Phish is unfortunately unknow in Europe but is very famous in the U.S. where many of their albums got gold or platinum certifications. Here is one of their classic taken from the 1989 album Junta.
