Blockbuster Of The week : Olympia by Brian Ferry

Brian Ferry released yesterday his 13th studio solo album. But is it really a solo work?
There are so many famous musicans that collaborated with Ferry on this album The most active one is David Stewart (Eurythmics) who co-wrote most of the songs. Manzanera, Mackay (both are members of Roxy Music), Groove Armada, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Scissor Sisters, Nile Rodgers, Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Brian Eno complete the long list of contributors. Is this superstar reunion working? Judge by yourself and listen to the first single "You Can Dance".

Brian Ferry became famous with the band Roxy Music early in the 1970's. The first line-up of the band included Brian Eno who work later  with U2, David Bowie and Talking Heads to name a few.

Reissue Of The Week : Bob Dylan : The Witmark Demos and The Mono Recordings

"The Witmark Demos features 47 Bob Dylan songs recorded by the artist accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, harmonica and occasionally piano on 2 CD or 4 LP 180-gram vinyl. All of these songs were written—and their subsequent demos recorded—before Bob Dylan turned 24 years old.

Among the many gems are 15 Bob Dylan songs that were recorded by the artist only for these sessions, and which have never been officially released to the public until now."

On these recording we find demo-songs that will become huge success like Blowin' In The Wind, The Times They Are A-Changin  and Mr. Tambourine Man. "The Witmark Demos also features a deluxe booklet featuring in-depth liner notes by noted music historian Colin Escott, as well as rare photographs of Bob Dylan captured during the same period as these early recordings."

"The Original Mono Recordings is comprised of Bob Dylan's first eight long-playing albums, painstakingly reproduced from their first generation monaural mixes as the artist intended them to be heard: one channel of powerful sound, both direct and immediate. While stereo recordings had been available as early as the mid-1950s, mono was still the predominant—and often preferred—mode of recording and mixing by the top artists of the 1960s.
The Original Mono Recordings 9 CD and 9 LP editions are accompanied by a deluxe booklet, featuring vintage photographs of Bob Dylan and an expansive essay from renowned author and Dylan aficionado, Greil Marcus. Each disc in the set comes in its own individual jacket which faithfully replicates the original album artwork, complete with labels and stickers that were found on the original 1960s releases.
These eight albums—spanning the artist's self-titled debut in March 1962, through John Wesley Harding released on December 27, 1967—are universally regarded as some of the most important works in the history of recorded music."

Taken from Dylan's offcial site. Read the offcial site for more information and shops where you'll find these recordings in your country.

Noise Of The Week : 3 U2 Albums: U2 & Danger Mouse - U2, David Guetta, RedOne & Will.I.Am - U2 & Spiderman

u2_2_.jpgBono has revealed, in The Age, that his band is working on three new albums.
The first, which is likely to be released early next year, is being produced by Danger Mouse, the alias for American production ace Brian Burton (Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz).
"We have about 12 songs with him," Bono said. "At the moment that looks like the album we will put out next because it's just happening so easily."
The second album is what he calls a "club" record, that will feature Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne, Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.I.Am and French superstar David Guetta.
"U2's remixes in the 1990s were a real treasure," he said. "So we wanted to make a club sounding record. We have a pile of songs."
Bono and guitarist The Edge are also attempting to sell their bandmates, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen jnr, the concept of a U2 album based on the 20 songs the two have written for a Spider-man musical that opens on Broadway next month.
"We haven't convinced the rest of the band to do that yet," he said. "Larry definitely has a raised eyebrow.
