catch-up #2: The general of the funky/pop songs' army
Catch-up # 2 : Good City for Dreamers by General Elektriks
The second episode of the “catch-up” sequel is brought to you by Nicolas VST (from the Police).
The brain behind General Elektriks is half French and half British or in other words half green jelly and half smelly cheese. Does it taste good? I do not think so. Does it sound good? Definitely YES! Good City for Dreamers is a pop/funk record that will give you a big smile on your face for the whole day. Try it!
Interested U.S. readers can click on the amazon widget to buy the album or songs. You can listen to the album on imeem and buy it on itunes, amazon,…

Acoustic Hip-Hop is the therapy
Speech Therapy by Speech Debelle
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about a bunch of guys called Anti-Pop Consortium doing electronic hip-hop. This weeks’ album is again a hip-hop record but it is completely different. One girl, Speech Debelle, is holding the microphone and the music is completely acoustic. Touches of jazz and trip-hop are present in “Speech Therapy” for listeners’ greatest pleasure.
The songs you must and will not miss: The key, Spinnin’, Bad Boy and Wheels in Motion. Speech Therapy is album of the week on Jenkins’ Glory Radio.
Interested U.S. readers can click on the amazon widget to buy the album or songs. You can listen to the album on deezer and buy it on itunes, amazon,…

The new album of Brand New is a daisy
DAISY by BRAND NEW
Sing alleluia! Quality hard rock is not dead. You need a proof man of poor faith? I’ve got one for you called Daisy. The album presents solid and heavy tracks that will not let you cold. And when Brand New calm down they do not play a mediocre ballad, like most hard rock bands do, but they go for really inspired pop/rock songs (hear it here). Daisy is a must for every rock ’n’ roll aficionado.
The songs you must and will not miss: Vices, Gasoline, In a jar. Daisy is album of the week on Jenkins’ Glory Radio.
Interested U.S. readers can click on the above amazon widget to buy the album or songs. You can listen to the album on musicme and buy it on itunes, amazon,…

Catch-up #1: The Mystical John Frusciante
Catch-up #1 : John Frusciante : The Empyrean
This is the first post of the « catch-up series ». This sequel presents albums that I missed earlier this year but that fortunately came back to my ears thanks to you. The first episode is brought to you by Xavier (tierce humeur).
What best describes the last solo record of Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ (RHCP) guitarist is the title: The Empyrean which means, for those like me who don’t know what it is :
1. the sky or heavens: the sky or celestial sphere ( literary )
2. highest part of heaven: the highest part of heaven, believed in ancient Greek and Roman times to contain pure fire or light and believed by some Christians to be the dwelling place of God ( archaic )
(taken from Encarta).
The ambiance of the album, released in January 2009, is mystical very far away from RHCP music. It is closer to palace brothers but with longer instrumental parts and more rock oriented. Frusciante is not the best singer of the rock scene but it sufficiently good to haunt the album. His guitar play is as always very good and never demonstrative.
John Frusicante - The Empyrean
Label: Record Collection
Producer: John Frusciante

Anti-Pop Consortium: Fluorescent Hip-Hop
Fluorscent Black by Anti-Pop Consortium
In 2003, Anti-pop Consortium released an excellent album in collaboration with the talented pianist Matthew Shipp. It was their last effort before the band broke up. Fortunately for hip-hop fans, they played a reunion show at the Knitting Factory of New York City in March 2008 and 18 months later released a new album: Fluorescent Black. Anti-Pop Consortium kept the same spirit as in the early 2000’s and delivers a high quality record. Sounds, songs’ structure and production are very elaborate. It might be not as innovative as it used to be in the 200-2003 period but it is still first class hip-hop.
The songs you must and will not miss: The Solution, SuperUnfrontable, Capricorn One and Fluorescent Black. Fluorescent Black is album of the week on Jenkins’ Glory Radio.
Interested U.S. readers can click on the above amazon widget to buy the album or songs. It is also available on musicme, lastfm, itunes,…
